Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. and Deputy Chief Bryan Warner have declared a State of Emergency due to the federal shutdown, which has suspended SNAP benefits for November.

The Cherokee Nation is providing one-time emergency payments of up to $185 per individual to Cherokee Nation citizens who were receiving SNAP benefits and reside anywhere in the United States. The tribe will adjust the benefits if USDA, or particular states where the applicant lives, pays partial benefits.

Applications are now open through the Gadugi Portal.

Application deadline: 11/14/2025 at 11:59pm CT

Eligibility:

  • Applicant must be a current Cherokee Nation citizen.
  • Applicant must have received SNAP benefits in October 2025.
  • Only one application per household.

Citizens are encouraged to update their Gadugi Portal profiles before applying.
